Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

At your initial consultation, we will determine your suitability for IPL, explain what a course of treatments would entail, and discuss your treatment goals. We will carry out the consent process and perform a patch test. For complete safety, your first treatment will be carried out at least seven days after your patch test to ensure your skin isn’t prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

During the treatment, we pulse the targeted area(s) using a handheld Venus IPL device. The specific levels of volts and pulsations are set precisely for your skin concern and Fitzpatrick type (skin colour). We work thoroughly over the specific treatment area to deliver an active, results-driven treatment that helps achieve optimal results. After the treatment, you will receive personalised homecare advice and an appropriate aftercare plan.

For clients seeking to amplify their results, IPL can be upgraded with Xeo Genesis Laser Technology – a gentle, non-invasive Nd:YAG laser that works deeper within the skin to stimulate collagen production, improve circulation and further reduce redness, promoting long-term skin health and enhanced clarity.

Please note, our IPL machine is not suitable for Fitzpatrick Skin Types 4 and above. We are unable to treat Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Black skin as it can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We have other options for these skin tones.

The device we use employs a cooling system to counteract any excess warmth to ensure you are comfortable. Most clients report feeling a short warm pulse, but it is not normally painful.

On day one, you may experience erythema and a red appearance. On day two, a red or pink hue persists like a moderate sunburn and light swelling may be noticeable on waking, but usually subsides as the day goes on. On day three, your skin may still be slightly pink, but any swelling has usually subsided. On subsequent days, the skin may feel tight and dry and light peeling may occur for up to one week.

Pigmentation may appear darker as the pigment moves to the surface of the skin and sloughs off. This can easily be hidden with make-up. It is extremely important not to pick any scabs or peeling skin as this could lead to further pigmentation issues.

Your normal skincare programme can be resumed after day three, with more active products being introduced after day five or when the skin has returned to normal.

Appropriate skincare will be recommended on the day of your treatment to help accelerate the healing process, protect the skin from the environment and enhance your desired results. It is extremely important to apply a minimum SPF30 every day, even if you are staying inside.
