Intense Pulsed Light

Also known as a ‘Photofacial’, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments effectively treat a variety of conditions on various areas on the body, from all-over treatments to targeted areas, and all with minimal downtime. By targeting a beam of infrared light to varying layers of the skin, the heat generated destroys the damaged cells, whilst leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This targeted stimulation also enhances the stimulation of collagen and elastin production, thus improving overall skin texture and improving signs of premature ageing.

The Benefits of The Venus IPL

  • Helps improve signs of premature ageing – fine lines, discoloration, loss of radiance
  • Helps reduce pore size and refine the skin’s texture
  • Helps diminish diffused redness caused by broken capillaries and rosacea
  • Brightens skin tone by fading freckles and sun spots
  • Addresses hyperpigmentation
  • Provides overall skin rejuvenation
  • Removal of cherry angiomas

IPL can be used various areas of the face and body, including:

  • Partial face – to address targeted areas of hyperpigmentation, freckles, or broken capillaries
  • Full face – to restore radiance, brighten skin tone, and promote a more even, rejuvenated complexion.
  • Full Face – to improve full facial hyper-pigmentation and diffused redness.
  • Décolletage – to improve sun damage, discoloration and vertical lines
  • Neck – to tighten loose skin and improve ‘chicken skin’
  • Hands – to help erase sun damage and hyperpigmentation and thicken the skin

The Treatment

An intense beam of infrared light passes through to the deepest levels of the skin, generating heat in a targeted area to destroy the offending cells, which cause the imperfection, without damaging the surrounding tissue. IPL also promotes the production of collagen with each treatment, further improving your skin’s texture and quality over time.

At your initial consultation we will determination your suitability, explain what a course of treatments entails and discuss your treatment goals. We will carry out the consent process and perform a patch test. For complete safety, your first treatment will be carried out at least 7 days after your patch test to ensure your skin isn’t prone to post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Treatment: Using the hand-held Venus IPL piece, we will be pulsing the targeted area(s). The specific levels of volts and pulsations are set at the correct levels for your skin concern and Fitzpatrick type (skin colour). We work very thoroughly over the whole of the specific treatment area to give you an active and results driven treatment. Thus helping to achieve optimal results.
After the treatment has been completed, you will be advised of home care advice and will receive an appropriate after care form.

Please note: Our IPL machine is not suitable for Fitzpatrick Skin Types 4 and above. We are unable to treat Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern or Black Skin as it can lead to post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. The Fractional Radio Frequency is preferable on these skin types.

The device we use employs a cooling system to counteract any excess warmth, ensuring your comfort. Most clients report feeling a short warm pulse, but certainly nothing painful.

Day 1: Possible erythema and red appearance which varies between people.
Day 2: A red or pink hue persists like a moderate sunburn.  Light swelling may be noticeable on waking and usually subsides as the day goes on.
Day 3: Skin may still be slightly pink. The slight swelling has usually subsided.

On subsequent days the skin may feel tight and dry and light peeling may occur for up to one week.

Pigmentation may appear darker as the pigment moves to the surface of the skin and sloughs off. This can easily be hidden with makeup. It is extremely important not to pick any scabs or peeling skin as this could lead to further pigmentation issues.

Your normal skincare programme can be resumed after day 3, with more active products being introduced after day 5 or when the skin has returned to normal.
Appropriate skincare will be recommended on the day of your treatment to help accelerate the healing process, protect the skin from the environment and enhance your desired results.

It is extremely important to apply a minimum SPF30 every day, even if you are inside.

Between 30 and 60 minute appointments are needed depending on the area to be treated and the number of passes required.
