Looking after your skin is a bit like maintaining a car. Regular clinical grade facials keep the engine going – they help to keep your skin healthy, glowing and any skin conditions under control – whereas aesthetic treatments are a bit like applying a fresh lick of paint and putting the shiny new wheels on. They take your skin to the next level, and micro-target concerns or damage at a deeper level for a smoother and more radiant complexion.
From microneedling and intense pulsed light (IPL) to advanced peels and radio frequency, read our guide to discover which aesthetic treatment could be right for your skin. You may notice that many of our advanced treatments treat similar concerns, but fear not – your therapist will be able to help guide you on what treatment is best for you, taking into account your skin quality and concerns.
Preparation is key
At Kate Kerr London, we explore advanced aesthetic treatments such as microneedling or IPL when the skin is functioning optimally and is strong and resilient, so if you’re an existing client of ours and you’ve been consistent with the skincare and treatment programme we have you on, then you’re ready to go!
Ensuring that your skin has optimal cell function, cell turnover and a strong barrier allows for superior results and a safer, more predictable treatment with fewer side effects and minimal downtime. The risks of long-term issues, like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation are also significantly reduced, so it’s win-win all round.
Advanced aesthetic treatments
A consultation with your facialist will help you to understand which of these advanced aesthetic treatments would work best to treat your skin. Below, you can read a little bit about each one to understand more about how they work, what the benefits are, which one might be best for your skin type and concerns, and any recovery time.

Micro-targeting every concern
The treatment: Advanced Peel
Skin peels offer an effective solution to a variety of skin conditions and concerns, such as acne, acne scarring, rosacea, hyperpigmentation including melasma and mild brown spots, photo ageing, skin ageing, coarse texture and dark eye circles.
We can provide you with a variety of different Enerpeel skin peels to stimulate skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. Our peels have a unique delivery system, which carries the active peeling agents deep into the skin. Once they reach the desired layers of the skin, they then activate, which provides a much more targeted and quicker result with less surface irritation and a speedier recovery. After a consultation, we will be able to determine which peel is best suited to your individual skin type and concerns to achieve the best results.
We understand and appreciate that every client has different needs, which is why we have a number of different Enerpeel peels containing very specific ingredient combinations; this allows us to choose the perfect skin peel to target your individual concerns. Our extensive treatment protocols are created for every skin condition, from acne and rosacea to dark circles, lines and wrinkles.
We can alternate and use different peels within your course to target multiple concerns. We can also layer peels for a stronger treatment and result, or build a mosaic peel, which involves using the best peel solution for each area or concern over the face.
The benefits:
- Stimulates collagen production to reduce signs of photo-damage, including fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dullness
- Softens and smooths the skin’s texture
- Improves acne breakouts and fades post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Helps lighten dark spots and even out skin tone
- Increases radiance and skin rejuvenation
- Helps induce angiogenesis, the production of new blood vessels, to encourage the clearing out of damaged vessels, which improves redness and rosacea.
Best for: A quick-fix treatment that significantly smooths and brightens for a more youthful-looking complexion – ideal if you can’t take much time out of your diary! It’s also great to alternate with microneedling in order to improve the surface texture of the skin, treat hyperpigmentation or redness, and remodel deep tissue. There’s a peel for everyone, from fair sensitive skin to skin of colour.
Areas for treatment:
- Face, neck, decolletage, hands, back – to target all concerns
- Neck and decolletage – to address signs of skin ageing, redness and hyperpigmentation
- Back and decolletage – To treat acne and acne scarring & postinflammatory pigmentation
How often: 4-6 every two weeks.

Resurfacing & Brightening
The treatment: Microneedling
We use a microneedling device to create controlled micro-injuries, which helps the skin to regenerate itself. Each fine needle creates a channel, or micro-wound to the dermis. This controlled micro injury triggers the body to stimulate the wound healing response. Fibroblasts are then stimulated to fill these micro-wounds with new collagen and elastin. In addition, new capillaries are formed leading to greater oxygen and nutrient absorption for a brighter complexion.
There are various needling devices, and at Kate Kerr London, we prefer to use an electronic microneedling machine known as the Derma FNS pen. The Derma FNS pen is an FDA-approved device that is proven to provide less discomfort with minimal to no downtime and provides greater results than a roller. The added advantage of the pen is that the depth of needle penetration can be altered during the treatment.
This enables us to provide a truly bespoke treatment plan to minimise discomfort and maximise results around sensitive and not-so-sensitive areas. The tip of the pen is small, allowing it to pass closer to the eyes and nose for a more effective treatment in those areas that are of great concern to many. The vibration of the Derma FNS pen also helps to minimise discomfort.
This is one of Kate Kerr’s favourite treatments as it’s extremely safe when performed by a trained aesthetician. It tricks the skin into helping itself by triggering the skin’s amazing natural healing abilities, which increases collagen and elastin production, as well as hydration.
The benefits:
- natural collagen induction & rejuvenation
- Improves wrinkles and fine lines
- Improves acne scars
- Minimises large pores
- Improves hyperpigmentation
- Aids the penetration of active ingredients such as meso serums, which can be needled in to the skin to boost the complexion even further, as well as micro-targeting any concerns
Best for: Anyone who wants to improve their skin’s texture for a smoother, more youthful-looking complexion. A fantastic safety profile and the fact it doesn’t use heat means that microneedling is suitable for all skin types and colours.
Areas for treatment:
- Face, neck, decolletage or hands – to address skin ageing, pore size and textural irregularities.
- Face, neck, decolletage or back – to target enlarged pores and acne scarring.
How often: 3-6 treatments spaced four weeks apart; more treatments may be necessary.

Treating Hyperpigmentation & Redness Control
The treatment: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Often known as photo-rejuvenation, this non-invasive, non-ablative treatment uses high intensity visible light that’s absorbed into targeted skin cells. By targeting a beam of light to varying layers of the skin, the heat generated destroys the damaged cells, whilst leaving the surrounding tissue and the surface of the skin intact. This targeted stimulation also increases collagen and elastin production, thus improving overall skin texture and improving signs of premature ageing.
The benefits:
- Improves the signs of skin ageing – fine lines, discolouration and loss of radiance
- Diminishes diffused redness caused by broken capillaries and rosacea
- Brightens skin tone by fading freckles and sun spots
- Addresses hyperpigmentation
- Provides overall skin rejuvenation
- Removes cherry angiomas
- Kills acne bacteria and inhibits inflammation in order to heal acne
Best for: At Kate Kerr London, we use IPL primarily for treating discolouration, whether that be hyperpigmentation, visible capillaries or diffused redness. We also have a specialist acne IPL device, which is designed to treat active acne.
Areas for treatment:
- Partial face – to address targeted areas of hyperpigmentation, freckles or broken capillaries and acne
- Full face – to restore radiance, brighten skin tone and promote a more even, rejuvenated complexion
- Full Face – to improve full facial hyperpigmentation, diffused redness, broken capillaries and acne
- Décolletage and neck – to improve sun damage, discolouration and redness
- Hands – to help erase sun damage, hyperpigmentation and thicken the skin
How often: Between 3-6 treatments, four to six weeks apart.

Deep Resurfacing & Colour Correction
The treatment: Venus Viva Nano Fractional Radio Frequency
Our revolutionary Venus Viva Nano Fractional Radio Frequency with Smart Scan technology is designed to resurface the skin’s texture whilst simultaneously targeting skin discoloration by improving vascularity and hyperpigmentation. Using targeted controlled heat to cause micro-ablation and coagulation, this FDA-approved device is clinically proven to deliver dramatic results to all skin types and colours.
Focused radio frequency waves direct controlled heat all the way through to the dermis to gently ablate microscopic columns of skin. This actively stimulates the fibroblasts to increase the production of collagen, repair the damaged tissue and remodel existing collagen. The overall effect is skin that rebuilds itself from the inside out: filling in acne scars, addressing fine lines and wrinkles, tightening the skin and breaking down hyperpigmentation. The heat also coagulates capillaries, which helps to minimise redness and visible capillaries.
This is one our punchiest treatments at Kate Kerr London, delivering the strongest results; it’s also fully adjustable to treat everything from mild to major concerns. We also love this treatment as it provides impressive results without the downtime and risks of an ablative laser, which historically, was the gold standard in working this deeply within the skin.
The benefits:
- Helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles
- Dramatically reduces acne scars
- Increases the skin’s elasticity to lift and tighten and improve deep wrinkles
- Improves overall skin texture and pore size
- Addresses hyperpigmentation, sun spots and discolouration
- Firms and tightens lax skin on the face, neck and jowls
- Boosts the skin’s radiance
- Helps reduce rosacea and areas of redness caused by broken capillaries
Best for: Treating a range of conditions and concerns including acne scarring, rosacea, hyperpigmentation and skin ageing. It’s suitable for all skin types and colours, but longer preparation may be needed on darker skin types to minimise the risk of hyperpigmentation.
Areas for treatment:
- Entire face – to improve texture, skin ageing and discolouration
- Specific areas of acne scarring
- Neck – firm and tighten the skin, soften horizontal lines and improve redness and hyperpigmentation
- Décolletage – to improve sun damage, discoloration and vertical lines
- Hands – to erase sun damage, hyperpigmentation and to thicken the skin
How often: Four treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Lifting & Tightening
The treatment: Venus Viva Radio Frequency
Our Venus Radio Frequency treatment utilises both multi-polar radio frequency and pulsed electro-magnetic fields to deliver focused yet controlled energy deep within the skin. We will massage your skin using a handheld device that delivers heat and electro-magnetic waves to targeted areas of tissue, stimulating both circulation and collagen production, as well as re-contouring the appearance of the skin.
The process feels like a warm massage and effectively tightens and lifts to enhance facial contours, whilst improving the skin’s overall radiance. The instant lifting and tightening of this treatment is quite remarkable and can be used on a variety of areas, including the entire face to lift and tone, the neck to firm loose skin and reduce fatty deposits, the decolletage to smooth and contour and the eyes to firm and brighten for a more rested appearance.
The benefits:
- Minimises and improves fine lines and wrinkles
- Firms and lifts loose skin on the face and neck
- Sculpts the contours of the face and neck area for a more youthful-looking appearance
- Tones and lifts for an immediately radiant effect – great for special occasions
- Increases angiogenesis, the production of new blood vessels, to provide more nutrients and oxygen to the cells, thus increasing cellular performance and skin function
- Helps reduce the fatty deposits under the chin and jawline
Best for: Venus Versa Radio Frequency is great for everyone, but specifically those concerned with loss of elasticity, skin ageing and those looking for a radiant, well-toned and lifted complexion with skin tightening. This treatment is our favourite to add on to your monthly facials and is great to help prepare the skin for a special event.
Areas for treatment: Eyes, face, neck or decolletage
How often: Due to the instant brightening and lifting results, a single treatment can be carried out for a special occasion or as a restorative and rejuvenating boost to your current clinical facial. For long lasting results, a course of six treatments is required for effective and enduring tissue remodelling to occur. One treatment every week for six weeks is optimal with a maintenance treatment carried out with your monthly facial.

Intense Texture & Tone Rejuvenation

Our Advanced Bibella Skin Rejuvenation treatment is like our Tribella treatment’s little sister: it combines Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Venus Viva Nano-Fractional Radio Frequency to makes the same improvements to skin texture and discolouration, but without that extra emphasis on also targeting loss of elasticity that you get when combined with Venus Radio Frequency.
The benefits:
- Helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles

- Neck – to tighten loose skin, improve texture and discolouration
- Decolletage – to improve sun damage, discolouration and vertical lines

How often: Three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Downtime and aftercare
The time you need to allow for the skin to recover depends on your treatment – with Venus Viva Radio Frequency, there’s no downtime at all. With our Advanced Peels, it can vary from person to person. You may notice that the complexion is red and feels tighter than usual afterwards; the skin may feel dry and you may experience mild flaking in certain areas for a few days.
With our other treatments, on day one, you may experience erythema and a red appearance. On day two, a red or pink hue persists like a moderate sunburn and light swelling may be noticeable on waking, but usually subsides as the day goes on. On day three, your skin may still be slightly pink, but any swelling has usually subsided. On subsequent days the skin may feel tight and dry and light peeling may occur for up to one week.
Appropriate skincare will be recommended on the day of your treatment to help accelerate the healing process, protect the skin from the environment and enhance your desired results. Your normal skincare programme can be resumed after day three, with more active products being introduced after day five or when the skin has returned to normal. Please note, a re-activation of cold sores is possible, so please see your doctor for a course of prophylactic medication prior to a skin peel.
Aside from microneedling, which utilises a numbing cream, it’s normal to experience a little discomfort when having these advanced treatments, however, rest assured that we will always work with you to ensure that it is manageable.
